Aitutaki Flyfishing, Chapter 21 “The End”

The conclusion
What should I say now. I hope, with all my pictures I was able to convey you the beauty and the fascination of the south pacific. It is truly an unbelievable beautiful place on great planet earth and I am really proud to have visited it in my life. All the money I have spent for it, all the worries I survived, all the troubles lay behind, what is left is the memory of the journey of a lifetime. You have to see it before you believe it. What you have seen is just a snapshot of it. There are so many more varieties, the cooks offer, I haven’t shown, simply because I focused on the fishery there only.

I haven’t visited many saltwater location before, I’m actually at the beginning, trying to afford regularly trips like these to remote places on the earth. I haven’t fished much for bonefish or GT. But when reading in the internet, there are not much places like Aitutaki where you can catch double digit bones next to big GT in such a high count. The fish for a life time catch are just swimming around you. The guides really know their business and are highly motivated to make dreams come true. All you need is going there and put a fly in the water. Take care for the season you want to go there and you will not regret it.

For the GTs I’m actually a little bit sad. It was my dream to catch a real big GT which wasn’t granted to me. You can’t enforce anything with fishing. It comes with effort, luck and preparation. The season was not the best for it. No I’m not said, I had the trip of my lifetime together with my beloved girl friend. Can it be better?

Please especially consider the Dos and Don’ts of Aitutaki because this island offer so much more than fishing. Bring along wife or girl friend, they will like it a lot. Get in touch with the friendly Aitutakian and also those of Rarotonga and soak up the spirit of the south pacific. Once I have worked off all other pictures I will add a bonus chapter to show you also other aspects of the Cook Islands

I hope with all my chapters… you, who is planning for this paradise, has a guideline that helps for the preparation. If it really helped I would be very happy if you could drop me some lines about your fishery. I really would like to see how your fishing was. Maybe you also have to share that you have learnt there.

When writing all this, we have evening, what means it is fishing time at Aitutaki. Maybe Itu or Rua is going out with a client for fishing for descent fish. Good luck!

Please see the best of the best of Aitutaki.

  1. Lieber Philipp,
    Complimenti e
    cari saluti da Lugano, Svizzera

  2. Dear Philipp, I was fishing in Aitutaki with Itu two weeks ago. It was beautiful ! The bones there are really monsters.
I would like to thank you very much for all the information I have found in your web site which allowed me to catch such BIG bones. I recommend to all they want to fish there to use only the Gamakatsu SL12S size 2 hooks because some monsters opened the Tiemco TMC 811S hooks. For the tippet the Rio Fluoroflex 50 Lb is better than the 30 Lb , during the fight the bones go in the corals to cut it. The best fly was a Crazy Charlie with orange head , body sand-orange colour and EP fibres sand or pale pink colour, 0,8 g for the flats and 1,2 -1,7 g for the milks.
Best regards and greetings from Itu,
    Fabio
