2014 was a great year for me, caught a big variety of species starting first of all with pike, walleye, perch, trout, grayling, char, carp and almost a wels catfish. All in one and of course my biggest love were the pikes and in this respect this year was outstanding, exceeded all my expectations
What made this years so special? I think it is the fact that for the first time I’m really satisfied and glad about the locations I’m allowed to fish here in my home country. I know that usually real satisfactions comes when you leave the pressure of catching fish at home and enjoy the nature and the fishing itself. This is exactly the point and it happened in that way with the bonus of catching fish too. Most of all I had great fun with my buddies going out for fishing and joking around.
The biggest surprise this year? That I didn’t kill a rod so far. All in all I try to preserve my gear but when it comes for catching a fish I’m not faint-hearted and you can’t making omelette without breaking eggs. I had each year breaking rods but this year so far I only had one when saltwater fishing. I’m this year more the fly line killer :-)
The most magnificent moment of this year? By far it was the moment on Rügen when we spotted chasing pikes on the surface and casting to them. Such a thing I was always dreaming about. Casting to them was one of the most exciting fishing I have ever done before. It is like sight casting to a rising brown trout and the moment when the brown breaks the surface to take your fly. Outstanding!
What will change next year? I’m this year a bit sad that I neglected a bit our beautiful trouts here in Austria. This is why we are famous for. The years before I had a more healthy balance between trout and pike fishing but you can’t fight your addictions. Next year this will change, I promise. I’m thirsty for dry fly fishing for rising salmonids
